The Evolution Aqua K+ Advanced 20” Bead Filter is a high performance pressurised filtration system designed for koi ponds and ornamental ponds up to 18,000 litres. Built around Evolution Aqua’s K+ Advanced media, this unit delivers combined mechanical and biological filtration within a compact footprint.

Unlike traditional sand or bead filters, the K+ Advanced system uses engineered floating media that provides increased surface area for bacterial colonisation. As a result, it supports efficient ammonia and nitrite conversion while also trapping fine suspended solids.

Because the unit operates under pressure, it can be installed below water level or remotely from the pond. Therefore, it offers flexibility where gravity fed filtration is not practical.

Mechanical and Biological Filtration with K+ Advanced Media

The 20” bead filter is preloaded with 50 litres of K+ Advanced Media. This media performs dual functions within the sealed vessel.

Firstly, it captures fine suspended particles, helping to improve water clarity. Secondly, it provides a protected surface area for beneficial bacteria. Consequently, both solid waste removal and biological breakdown occur within the same compact chamber.

Due to the floating nature of the media, backwashing is effective and efficient. The supplied multiport valve and air blower allow agitation of the media during cleaning cycles. As a result, trapped debris is released and flushed to waste without dismantling the filter.

Compact Design with Durable Construction

The 20 inch housing is manufactured using a rotational moulding process. This creates a strong, UV resistant shell suitable for long term outdoor installation.

With dimensions of approximately 500 mm diameter and 695 mm height, the filter fits neatly into smaller filter bays. Consequently, it is particularly suited to installations where space is limited but high quality filtration is still required.

Because it is a pressurised system, pipework runs can be simplified compared to larger gravity fed systems.

Ideal Pump Pairing

To achieve the optimal flow rate of 6,000 litres per hour, careful pump selection is important.

An adjustable pump such as the Evolution Aqua Varipump 10,000 allows accurate flow tuning while maintaining energy efficiency. Alternatively, a controllable pump such as the Pontec PondoMax Eco Control 10000 provides a cost effective solution.

Maintaining correct flow is essential. Excessive flow can reduce filtration dwell time, while insufficient flow limits turnover rate. Therefore, adjustable pumps provide clear performance benefits.

Ideal Pre Filtration and UV Integration

For best results, the K+ Advanced 20 inch bead filter performs exceptionally well when paired with a mechanical pre filter such as a Cetus Sieve. Removing larger solids before they enter the bead filter reduces cleaning frequency and improves overall efficiency.

Similarly, pairing the system with a suitably sized UV clarifier like the Evolution Aqua EvoUV 55w enhances green water control and supports clearer water.
