Installation and sizing guidance

For best results, place the air pump in a dry, well ventilated and weather protected location. It is normally better to position the pump above the pond water level. If the pump is lower than the water level, fit suitable non-return valves to reduce the risk of water running back down the airline and damaging the pump.

• Use the correct diameter airline for the airflow being produced.
• Use an air manifold if the pump is feeding more than one diffuser.
• Avoid excessive back pressure from blocked stones, restricted airline or deep installations.
• Check and clean inlet filters as part of routine maintenance.
• Do not allow the pump to sit where it can flood, overheat or draw in dirt.

As a general guide, larger diffuser discs and deeper ponds need more airflow and pressure than shallow air stones. If several outlets are being used, balance the airflow through a manifold rather than forcing all of the output through one small stone.
