Evolution Aqua evoUV Pond Clarifiers
Standard and titanium-enhanced UV clarifiers, compared using the manufacturer’s real pond and flow guidance
Evolution Aqua evoUV clarifiers are designed to control the single-celled algae that turns pond water green. Water passes around a UV-C lamp inside the unit; the exposed algae then clumps together so the mechanical filter can remove it. A UV is therefore part of the filtration circuit, not a replacement for the filter.
This category contains the standard evoUV 15, 25, 30, 55, 75 and 110 watt units plus the titanium-enhanced evoUV Ti 55 and Ti 110. We have checked the range against Evolution Aqua’s current published data because several older product summaries overstated pond size or flow. The corrected figures below distinguish optimum flow from the absolute published maximum.
We sell these units, bulbs and quartz sleeves, but we would rather help you choose the right size once than sell a smaller UV that disappoints in a heavily stocked koi pond. Pond volume, shade, fish load, water temperature, flow and mechanical filtration all affect the result.
Standard evoUV Range and Published Sizing
| Model | Maximum pond | Optimum flow | Maximum flow | Connections |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| evoUV 15W | 15,000 litres | 5,000 l/h | 7,500 l/h | 1½ inch |
| evoUV 25W | 20,000 litres | 7,500 l/h | 10,000 l/h | 1½ inch |
| evoUV 30W | 30,000 litres | 12,500 l/h | 15,000 l/h | 1½ inch |
| evoUV 55W | 55,000 litres | 15,000 l/h | 20,000 l/h | 1½ inch |
| evoUV 75W | 75,000 litres | 17,500 l/h | 25,000 l/h | 1½ inch |
| evoUV 110W | 75,000 litres | 20,000 l/h | 25,000 l/h | 2 inch |
These figures are selection guides, not a promise that the maximum pond volume is suitable in every installation. A sunny, warm, heavily stocked koi pond normally deserves more UV capacity than a lightly stocked shaded ornamental pond.
What the evoUV Ti Models Add
The evoUV Ti 55W and evoUV Ti 110W use a titanium internal surface as part of a photocatalytic process. Evolution Aqua describes the design as producing highly reactive hydroxyl radicals and being up to 1.5 times more effective than its standard UV at comparable wattage.
The Ti 55 follows the 55,000-litre, 15,000 l/h optimum and 20,000 l/h maximum guide. The Ti 110 follows the 75,000-litre, 20,000 l/h optimum and 25,000 l/h maximum guide. Titanium enhancement does not remove the need for correct flow, clean quartz and effective downstream mechanical capture.
Install the UV Where It Can Actually Work
Fit the unit in the return circuit in the orientation allowed by its manual, with unions or removable connections and enough room to withdraw the lamp and quartz sleeve. Use the stated connection bore rather than immediately reducing to a small hose that increases friction and compromises the pump duty.
Flow matters because exposure time matters. Faster is not automatically better: a UV can have plenty of wattage but poor clarification if water passes too quickly or bypasses the unit. Conversely, an unnecessarily low flow can reduce the filter turnover the pond needs.
Our advice: send us the pond volume, pump model, real pipe route and filter before choosing the UV. We can check the complete circuit rather than guessing from litres alone.
Bulbs, Quartz Sleeves and Seasonal Maintenance
UV-C output declines with use even while a lamp still glows blue. Replace lamps on the manufacturer’s schedule and clean the quartz whenever scale or film is visible. Isolate the electricity and water before opening the unit; never look directly at an illuminated UV-C lamp.
A scaled quartz sleeve can block useful UV-C transmission. A cracked sleeve can let water into the electrical area. Replace damaged sleeves and tired seals with the exact parts for the model, then pressure- or leak-test before restoring power.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does an evoUV do?
It exposes suspended green-water algae to UV-C so the particles can be captured more readily by the mechanical filter.
Will an evoUV remove blanket weed?
No. Blanket weed is attached filamentous algae and needs a different control and maintenance approach.
Is the maximum pond volume always suitable?
No. Fish load, sunlight, temperature, flow and filtration can justify selecting a larger unit.
What is the difference between optimum and maximum flow?
Optimum is the manufacturer’s preferred operating guide for treatment; maximum is the upper published throughput and should not be treated as the automatic target.
What is the largest standard evoUV pond-volume guide?
Both the 75W and 110W standard models are published for ponds up to 75,000 litres, with different optimum-flow figures.
Why does the evoUV 110 have two lamps?
The standard 110W model uses two 55W T8 lamps.
What is special about evoUV Ti?
Its titanium-enhanced internal surface supports a photocatalytic process intended to improve treatment effectiveness.
Can the UV be installed before the filter?
Follow the system design and unit manual. The important points are safe pressure, correct flow and effective mechanical capture of treated algae.
Can I reduce the pipe size at the UV?
Only after checking the complete circuit. A small restriction can waste pump performance and reduce delivered flow.
Why is the water still green after fitting a UV?
Check lamp age, quartz scale, actual flow, bypasses, installation orientation, pond volume and whether the filter can capture the treated material.
Does a glowing bulb prove it still produces useful UV-C?
No. A lamp can glow visibly after its useful UV-C output has declined.
How often should the quartz sleeve be cleaned?
Inspect it during seasonal servicing and whenever performance falls; hard-water systems may need more frequent descaling.
Can I run the UV without water?
Do not operate it dry or outside the installation conditions in its manual.
Is UV-C dangerous to look at?
Yes. Isolate power before opening the unit and never view an illuminated UV-C lamp directly.
Which spare bulb or quartz do I need?
Match the exact evoUV model, wattage and generation rather than ordering by appearance.
Can you check my sizing?
Yes. Send pond volume, fish stock, pump, pipe bore and route, filter and the amount of sunlight.
