Charles Austen E Series Pond Filter Pumps

Large screened submersible pumps for filters, waterfalls and debris-bearing pond water

E Series is the purpose-built pond-filter family in this group. A broad grated intake surrounds the pump, screening out larger debris while the impeller can pass suspended solids up to 6 mm. The ball-joint outlet helps aim the connection without forcing the hose into an awkward bend.

The range starts with the E5000 at 4,800 l/h and extends to E20000 at 17,800 l/h. All are submersible. Charles Austen also lists thermal-overload protection and multiple outlet adaptors.

A filter pump should be selected from the turnover needed after pipe and filter losses. Do not size it from pond volume and maximum flow alone.

Designed for pond filtration

The intake cage presents a large surface area, so the pump can draw from around its body without one small screen blocking immediately. It keeps out leaves and larger material while allowing smaller solids to travel to an appropriate mechanical filter.

That only works when the downstream filter is designed to receive solids. Do not pump coarse waste into a restrictive UV or fine cartridge without suitable pre-filtration.

Choose the working flow

E5000 and E8000 fit modest garden systems. E12000 and E15000 cover larger filters and waterfalls; E20000 provides the strongest flow and head. Check the filter’s recommended flow window and allow for pipe loss.

A larger pump is not automatically better. Excess flow can reduce contact time, disturb settlement stages or exceed a UV’s recommended rate.

Install for easy maintenance

Keep the cage accessible, use large-bore pipe and include unions or flexible connectors so the pump can be removed. Inspect the intake before a fall in flow becomes severe.
